| Le groupe AIR est composé de Nicolas Godin et de Jean-Benoît Dunckel, tous deux nés en 1969 et sont originaires de Versailles. Avant de monter AIR, ils formaient déja avec ALEX GOPHER et BANG BANG (aka Xavier Jamaux, moitié d'OLLANO), le groupe de rock ORANGE, à la fin des années 80. Au milieu des années 90, Nicolas, qui s'était attelé à des études d'architecture, compose des morceaux avec ses machines ... Il en sort "Modulor", un titre downtempo très séduisant. Le maxi sortira chez SOLID en 95 en license avec SOURCE, label sur lequel AIR partira pour promouvoir leur musique à une plus grande échelle ... En 96, Nicolas et Jean-Benoît se retrouvent et s'associent dans le projet AIR et sortent plusieurs maxis, regroupés dans "PREMIERS SYMPTÔMES". Cette compilation précédera l'arrivée de "Moon Safari" en 98, un album féérique qui marquera les esprits. Il subira l'effet 'French Touch' au même titre que DAFT PUNK, SUPERDISCOUNT ... Après avoir composé une bande originale plutôt sombre pour le film de Sophia Coppola "The Virgin Suicides", le duo en remet une couche avec "10000 HZ Legend", deuxième véritable opus sorti en 2001, sur lequel BECK ferait quelques apparitions. Un opus enivrant et surtout difficile d'accès dès la première écoute, qui au lieu de prendre part aux rêves comme sur "Moon Safari", laisse place aux désillusions ... Le groupe AIR a son propre label indépendant, RECORD MAKERS et sort des disques divers et variés. Dernièrement, AIR a mis en musique des textes venant du livre "City" de l'écrivain musicologue italien Alessandro Baricco (sur "Baricco City Reading") et prépare son 3ème album. AIR band is composed by Nicolas Godin & Jean-Benoît Dunckel, who were born in 1969 & raised in Versailles, near from Paris. Before setting up AIR, they formed ORANGE rock band with ALEX GOPHER & BANG BANG (aka Xavier Jamaux, from OLLANO band) at the end of the 80s. At the middle of the 90s, Nicolas, who started architecture studies, composed some tracks in his home-studio ... He made a seducing downtempo track called "Modulor". An EP will be released on SOLID in 95 with a license on SOURCE. SOURCE is the record company where the duet will start an international career ... In 96, Nicolas & Jean-Benoît met again, they united in order to release some EPs, which will be avalaible on a compilation called "PREMIERS SYMPTÔMES". After that, in 1998, the fairy "Moon Safari" album is released. This album contributed to the FRENCH TOUCH phenomena, like DAFT PUNK, SUPERDISCOUNT ... After having composed a darker soundtrack for Sophia Coppola's movie called "The Virgin Suicides", the duet does it again with "10000 HZ Legend", their 2nd LP released in 2001, featuring some BECK appearances. This album is very fascinating & it's very difficult for listeners to enter their universe. Instead of taking part for dreams (like in "Moon Safari"), "10000 HZ Legend" reflects a disillusions world ... AIR owns a record label called RECORD MAKERS where they release very varied stuff. Recently, AIR did the music using words from a book called "City" by Alessandro Baricco (an italian musicology author) on "Baricco City Reading" & they're preparing their 3rd album. |
