Gopher (de son vrai nom Alexis Latrobe) a démarré la musique à
l'âge de 15 ans, il s'est mis à pratiquer la basse, puis il a monté
un groupe de rock appelé ORANGE avec Xamier Jamaux (aka BANG BANG, moitié
d'OLLANO), Jean-Benoît et Nicolas de AIR,
ainsi qu'un chanteur (qui est inconnu) ... Le groupe se sépare en 89 et
Alex continue à faire de la musique avec Nicolas ... Nicolas préférait
la pop et a commencé à travailler avec Jean-Benoît, mais Alex
avec son goût affirmé pour le P-Funk n'a pas voulu participer à
l'aventure AIR ... Il s'est fait embaucher par TRANSLAB (une société
de mastering de disques), ce qui ne l'a pas empêché de monter SOLID
avec ETIENNE
DE CRECY et PIERRE-MICHEL LEVALLOIS. Il a signé un premier maxi sous
le nom de "Alex" (le "Gopher EP"), mais les gens en lisant
le titre du maxi pensaient qu'il s'agissait du "Alex Gopher EP" (en
anglais, le maxi d'Alex Gopher), alors il a finalement décidé d'opter
pour le nom de ALEX GOPHER (Gopher étant une référence au
stewart de "La Croisière S'Amuse") ... Il enchaîne les
maxis et acquiert une certaine reconnaissance auprès des autres artistes
français (notamment THOMAS
BANGALTER qui l'a beaucoup encouragé lors de la conception de son album
"You, My Baby & I"). L'album sort après avoir été
repoussé maintes maintes fois et il a reçu un petit succès,
grâce aux clips de "PARTY PEOPLE" (réalisé par Quentin
Dupieux aka MR.OIZO) et "THE CHILD" (fabriqué par la société
de design H5) qui sont très réussis ... Il signe également
des tracks sous le nom de WUZ (un projet plus dancefloor pour le compte de POUMTCHAK,
le sous-label de SOLID) ... Alex Gopher (aka Alexis Latrobe) started making music at the age of 15, he practised bass guitar & founded a band called ORANGE with Xavier Jamaux (aka BANG BANG), Nicolas & Jean-Benoît from AIR & a singer (which is unknown) ... The group splitted in 89 & Alex went on making music with Nicolas, but Nicolas prefered pop music & started working with Jean-Benoît. Alex prefered P-Funk so he didn't want to take part of AIR ... He is employed at TRANSLAB (a mastering society) but it didn't prevent him of founding SOLID record label with ETIENNE DE CRECY & PIERRE-MICHEL LEVALLOIS. He released a EP under the name of "Alex" (this EP was called "Gopher EP"), but people read "Alex Gopher EP" so Alex decided to take ALEX GOPHER as an artist name (GOPHER name comes from the name of the stewart of "Love Boat") ... He released few EPs & got recognition from other French artists (like THOMAS BANGALTER who encouraged him during the making of his "You, My Baby & I" album). The album is released after being pushed back many times ... He was quite successful thanks to movies of "PARTY PEOPLE" (directed by Quentin Dupieux aka MR.OIZO) & "THE CHILD" (made by H5 design enterprise) who are well done ... Alex also makes tracks under the name of WUZ (a dance floor project for POUMTCHAK, which is the sub-label of SOLID) ... |
